Some frequently asked questions about our design retainers.
How does a design retainer contract work?
Think of your retainer fee as our monthly salary, without all the overhead. It is paid up front at the beginning of each month before any design work is ordered. Essentially, you are paying for time versus a specific service. This allows you to benefit from avoiding those fluctuating designer fees, and supplies you with a cost savings!
Based on the retainer package you select, we will block out our schedule with the appropriate amount of hours each month and plan our workload accordingly.
You have peace of mind knowing that you will receive a pre-established amount of work each month, without having to worry about what our current design workload looks like, and if we have time for you, or not. We will always have time for your design requests!
What kind of commitment is required?
We ask for a 3 month minimum commitment (or 6 months for our Premium Retainer package).
We will re-evaluate at the end of the 3 months to make sure you have enough hours for your work. Contracts can also be 6, 9, or 12 months.
Contracts can be upgraded at the beginning of any month within your contract (one updgrade per contract). Downgrades are only available at the end of the agreed upon term.
What types of design requests can I submit?
Included in the scope of the retainer are just about everything you can think of, excluding video and animation services. If you have a specific need and unsure whether it’s covered, please do contact us with any queries you may have. In terms of our retainer packages, here is what you can expect:
Basic services include:
- Brand Assets - letterheads, reports, email signatures ...
- Print Material - flyers, brochures, business cards ...
- Digital Designs - social media graphics, blog banners ...
Full service includes:
- All that is included in basic services
- Social media graphics
- Social media post scheduling
- Basic community management
Can unused time be transferred to the next month?
The cost for each package is a monthly fee and secures that time for your business each month. We cannot transfer any unspent time to the following months. This is rarely an issue though, as each month we will check in to discuss your requirements and make sure you are getting the best return on your retainer investment.
Who do I contact for work we need done?
Your main contact will always be the SAME person, each and every time.
How do we get started?
- Fill out the form below. We will then set up a 30-minute consultation call so we can hear more about your needs.
- First Payment. Once a contract is signed and the first retainer fee is paid, we can commence the journey of helping your business flourish visually.
- Repeat. We will repeat this process each month for the duration of your retainer.
- Reevaluate. At the end of the contract we will review your needs and you'll be able to upgrade/downgrade as needed.
What is NOT included?
The following services are not included in any standard retainer, but can be quoted for separately.
- Unlimited revisions unless otherwise discussed, agreed, and paid for
- Design, redesign, or development of a website
- New brand identities

- Consultation / Advice that is not included in the scope of your project
- Printing services
- Services do not include any additional hard costs such as stock photography purchases, web hosting purchases etc.
